What Maintenance Programs Does the Company Provide?

Top Fire Safety Inc. incorporates a maintenance program for any and all systems or extinguisher we inspect. This program involves calling our customers when their annual yearly or semi-annual inspections are due. This allows our customers the freedom from having to keep track of when inspections are due. Our Booking Coordinator will call and arrange convenient times for these inspections to be done.

Yearly inspections are required to be done on:

  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Emergency Lights
  • Fire Extiguishers
  • Sprinkler Systems
  • Fire Hydrants

Six month inspections are required to be done on:

  • Kitchen Suppression Systems
  • CO2

*It is strongly recommended that Emergency Lights be checked on a quarterly basis because they operate on batteries and use light bulbs, which can burn our and often go unnoticed. Because of this we feel that closer monitoring is needed to maintain a high level of safety.

What Emergency After-Hours Services Does the Company Provide?

Top Fire Safety Inc. operates on a 24 hourr/7 days a week basis. Our regular office hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday. Because we know that emergencies don't always happen within office hours, we have an on-call technician who can be paged at any time for emergency situations. The on-call technician can be reached by calling our office phone number for the on-call pager number. Customers can then call the pager number and leave a phone number where they can be reached. Our technician will call the number immediately after receiving the page. For less immediate service, messages can be left on our answering machine, which is checked in the morning at 8:00am, when the office is open.

Safety Tips

General Home Fire Safety Tips

  • Teach your children the fire dept's phone # - 911 or the the # of the local fire station.
  • Prepare a home escape plan with your children. Practice fire drills regularly.
  • Make sure members of the family know all of the ways to get our of your home, including how to unlock doors and windows.
  • Tell children never to hide from a fire - get out immediately and call 911 or the local fire station from a neighbour's house.
  • STOP, DROP & ROLL - Teach your children what to do if their clothes are on fire.
  • Teach children that smoke rises. Demonstrate crawling low under smoke.
  • Make sure you have smoke alarms on every floor and check their batteries regularly (the best time to do that is when you change your clocks in April & October)
  • If you have pets, make sure there are no fire hazards lying around that they can knock over or get into while you're not there. It is also a good idea to have a sticker on the door or window that  lets firefighters know there are pets inside to be rescued.

Matches & Lighters

  • Always keep matches and lighters away from children. Store them up high or in a locked cabinet and treat them like you would any other dangerous weapon.
  • Ask your children where the matches and lighters are. You would be surprised what they know.
  • Set clear rules and expectations. Children should "tell" a grown-up if they find matches and lighters so that adults can put them in a safe place.
  • Teach your children that matches and lighters are not toys and should only be used by adults: that fire can hurt them and destroy things and once a fire is started, it is difficult to control or extinguish.
  • Make sure  your child is supervised at all times. Most fires started by children happen when the child is not being supervised.

Kitchen Safety

  • Never leave children unattended around the stove and other kitchen appliances.
  • Keep pot handles turned toward the back of the stove and never leave cooking food unattended.
  • If a grease fire starts in a pan put on an oven mitt and smother the flames by carefully sliding a lid over the pan.
  • Avoid loose clothing as it can brush against heating elements and easily catch fire.
  • Always keep your oven clean because built-up grease and food particles are easily ignited.
  • Keep combustibles (dish towel, newspapers, grocery bags) away from the oven and all appliances.
  • Never put metal containers in a microwave as a fire may occur.
  • Make sure all kitchens appliances are in a good working condition and always follow cooking instructions.

Barbecue Safety

  • Before using a grill, check the connection between the propane tank and the fuel line.
  • Do not wear loose clothing while cooking at the barbecue.
  • Be careful when using lighter fluid. Do not add fluid to an already lit fire because the fire can flashback up into the container and explode.
  • Supervise children around outdoor grills and make sure to keep matches and lighters away from children.
  • Never barbecue in an enclosed area.

Camping Safety

  • Always use a flame-retardant tent and set up far away from campfire.
  • Build campfires where they will not spread, away from dry grass and leaves and downwind from any tent.
  • Never leave the campfire unattended, especially when there are children around.
  • Keep campfires small and have plenty of water and a shovel on hand to douse the fire.

Fireworks Safety

  • If you plan to use fireworks, make sure they are legal in your area.
  • Never light fireworks indoors or near dry grass.
  • Always have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Do not wear loose clothing while using fireworks.
  • Stand several feet away from lit fireworks.
  • Always read the directions and warning labels on fireworks.
  • Supervise children around fireworks at all times.

Home Fire Safety While on Vacation

  • Make sure the stove is turned off and household appliances are unplugged.
  • Don't trust  heat-producing devices, such as automatic brew coffeepots, to turn themselves on or off, particularly if they depend on timers or a clock.
  • Switch off portable heaters.
  • Unplug overloaded outlets or old/frayed extension cords.
